Town 18: I diverted 33KM from the main highway to reach Condamine. Another small town not dissimilar to Brigalow. To get here I passed through Chinchilla and I am now rather curious to find out more about their Melon festival (to be held again in 2011).
Anyway, worthy of note is that Condamine is said to be the location where the ‘Condamine Bell’, a small bell made from sheet metal used to locate herds of cattle, was invented. A picture of the bell appears on the town sign (see above).
I pulled into the truck stop where I enjoyed a hearty breakfast and also learnt some local history from the pin board. Flooding and a rather quiet street parade in 1946 feature.
