Casino isn’t famous for a casino, in fact I could not see one in town – so how did it get this great name? Apparently it is named after the town Cassino’ in Italy, but through the official naming process a spelling error resulted in the name “Cassino” becoming Casino.

Anyway regardless of how it got it’s name, I arrived in the township early in the morning when most were still sleeping – except for a few cattle in the fields, which also represents the towns claim to fame as the Beef Capital of Australia. Rockhampton also makes this claim, but hey, I’m sure there are enough beef cattle to go around. The few streets of the main town centre are wide and tidy affairs, but deserted so I continue further out of the town past the green pastures and the cattle that watch as I drive by.
