Yeerongpilly is a quaint Brisbane suburb. Centred on a one-way system and a strange roundabout system it immediately comes across as quite industrial with car repair shops and the like present and apparently has a large Asian and growing Sub-Saharan African populations. There was nothing for the tourist. The name is derived from the Aboriginal words “yarung” meaning sandy or gravelly or “yurong” meaning rain and “pilly” meaning gully or watercourse

I ventured away from the hub of the suburb and into a quiet residential street where just a few houses and a small children’s playground was present along with the entrance to the Brisbane Golf Club. Founded in 1896, and located at Yeerongpilly since 1903, Brisbane Golf Club was the first full length course in Queensland.
