Mullumbimby is located just 4 km off the Pacific Highway, but it could be 1000km as it is peaceful country township and a focal point for the local community including a number of surrounding farms.
I was unaware as I passed through the town that during the late 1960’s the district was one of the great alternative lifestyle centres in the country. Unlike nearby Nimbin and Byron Bay, which also choose to celebrate counterculture, little is left to remind present day visitors of these times gone by.
Maybe the Mullumbimby hippies are chilling out at the local bowls club?
